PDC World Championship Tips: Value with number 10 seed

Jaymes Monte looks to maintain his 100% tipping record in this tournament as we move on to day four of the PDC World Championships...

When the draw was made, Ian White to beat Mark Webster was a bet that I was looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into. Webster's form has nosedived over the past 12 months, while White has been one of the most improved players on the circuit in the same period.

Surprise victories against Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld have made White a profitable ally this season, and one that I have always looked to keep on side with in the opening rounds of Major tournaments at big odds.

So when he was pitted against an out-of-sorts Webster I thought great, another chance to get stuck into Diamond at healthy odds-against prices. Not so. It seems that most punters and bookmakers were of the same opinion and in fact it is Webby who has been made the outsider.

That doesn't sit right with me, and although I wanted to back White before I'd seen the market, there is now huge value in backing Webby at odds of 2.08.

We shouldn't forget that the Welshman was a Lakeside world champion as recently as 2008, a semi-finalist on this very Alexandra Palace stage just 24 months ago, and a finalist at the Players Championship Finals little more than 12 months ago. Yes he is suffering a bit at present, but he is still a class act when he gets it right.

It's important that he gets off to a good start, because his game does depend a lot on confidence at the moment, but opportunities to back players who rank 22 places higher than their opponent at odds-against prices rarely present themselves. So when they do it is important to take advantage.
