Bayern to wrap up title in style

Bayern Munich have moved to within touching distance of regaining the Bundesliga title, and Kevin Hatchard expects them to get the win they require against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayern Munich are on the brink of securing their 22nd Bundesliga title, and they could smash a clutch of records this season. If Bayern do win at Eintracht Frankfurt  on Saturday to confirm themselves as champions, they will have wrapped up the title more quickly than any other side in Bundesliga history. No team has ever won the  title by more than 16 points (Bayern are already 20 clear), and Bayern are on course to smash Borussia Dortmund's record points total of 81. The Bavarian giants are  also chasing what would be a record 11th consecutive Bundesliga victory.

 

Bayern's away form this season has been terrifyingly good - they have won 12 and drawn one of their 13 road games, scoring 30 goals and conceding just two. No team has  gone a whole Bundesliga season unbeaten on their travels since the Bayern team of 1987, and no side has ever collected more points on the road in a campaign than  Bayern already have in the bag (37).

 

There was no sign of Bayern being complacent or easing off last weekend, as they humiliated Hamburg 9-2 at the Allianz Arena. It's worth noting that Bayern destroyed  the Redshorts despite resting Mario Mandzukic, Thomas Muller and Franck Ribery. Claudio Pizarro helped himself to four goals on what was only his third Bundesliga  start of the campaign. Bayern followed that victory up with an excellent 2-0 Champions League victory against Juventus.

 

So can Eintracht Frankfurt stop the Bayern juggernaut? Recent evidence would suggest the answer is no. The Eagles are only outside the top four on goals scored, but  they have struggled for momentum since Christmas. Last week's 3-2 win at the bottom side Greuther Furth was welcome but unconvincing, and Armin Veh's men have taken  just a solitary point from their last three home games. In the second half of the season Eintracht have collected just 12 points from an available 30, and they have  failed to score in five of their last ten matches.

 

Even though Bayern will have an eye on next week's Champions League return at Juve, they have proven their squad is strong enough to cope with any eventuality.  Eintracht have punched above their weight all season, but this is a fight they surely can't win.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Greuther Furth, Sat 14:30 BST

Greuther Furth's 3-2 home defeat to Eintracht last week pretty much confirmed their relegation after just one season. The Clover Leaves are nine points behind third- bottom Augsburg, with just seven games left to save themselves. New coach Frank Kramer has made an attacking impact, as his charges have scored four goals in two  games. Problematically they have shipped five goals at the other end.

 

Greuther have been more impressive on the road than at home, collecting 11 of their 15 points on their travels. 12 of their 18 goals have come away from home, and they  have only lost one of their last four away games.

 

Gladbach are four points off the pace in the Champions League race after a run of two wins in eight. This run makes it difficult to get excited about Gladbach's price  of 1.66 for the win. Of more interest is the 2.06 on offer for Over 2.5 Goals. Opta tell us that Gladbach have netted in each of their last 13 home games, and with Greuther suddenly starting to score goals, 2.06 looks a touch heftier than it should be. It's also worth considering the teams shared six goals (Gladbach won 4-2) in the reverse fixture.

Borussia Dortmund vs Augsburg, Sat 14:30 BST

Match Odds: Dortmund 1.38, Augsburg 9.6, the draw 5.6

 

Borussia Dortmund played well in Wednesday's 0-0 Champions League draw at Malaga, but fluffed their lines in the final third. The holy trinity of Robert Lewandowski,  Mario Gotze and Marco Reus all missed good chances, but coach Jurgen Klopp will be encouraged that his side made so many opportunities against a strong side.

 

While BVB will have an eye on the return leg and may rest one or two players, I think they will still have enough quality to dispose of relegation-threatened Augsburg.  The Bavarians suffered a morale-wrecking 2-0 reverse at home to Hannover last week. Markus Weinzierl's men dominated for long spells, but were hit with two sucker- punches from Konstantin Rausch.

 

BVB have won four of their last five Bundesliga home games, and they have rattled in 15 goals in the process. Opta tell us their record against Augsburg is good - they  beat them 3-1 earlier in this campaign, and last season they thrashed them 4-0 at Signal Iduna Park.

 

Augsburg have won their last two Bundesliga away games, but those victories were at struggling Hamburg and Werder Bremen. BVB will provide a much sterner test, and  backing them -1.5 on the Asian Handicap has paid out in four of their last five home games.
