Will Djokovic stop the Nadal run?

Roland Garros

Rafael Nadal has the chance to write a little piece of history today if he should overcome Novak Djokovic to win the French Open at Roland Garros. Nadal has almost owned this tournament in recent years and is a six time winner here in Paris. Nadal captured his first French Open way back in 2005 and won it for four consecutive years between 2005 and 2008.

He lost his title to Roger Federer in 2009 because of injury but he was back to regain his title and won it again in 2010 and 2011. A win today will take him ahead of Bjorn Borg who also has six titles and only one behind the all time leader who is Max Decugis who won eight titles between 1903 and 1914 although the tournament was only open to French club members at that time.

However Novak Djokovic is the undisputed world number one and player standing in Nadal's way in the final. Whatever the result then history will be made. Djokovic currently holds the other three slam titles of Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open and so winning here would achieve the very rare feat of having the same player hold all four slam titles.
