What we have seen in this Euro 2012 tournament is an indication that in terms of the European nations, the rest are now some way adrift of Spain and Germany either in terms of quality of football, mental strength, consistency of results and team harmony. While other teams can match these two giants in maybe one or two of those four categories, nobody can match them in all of them. The Netherlands just didn't perform when it really mattered most and in fighting within the team cost them dear.

Having a lack of team harmony then knocks on to consistency and there are two types of consistency. There is consistency when you play the lesser teams and consistency when you play the best teams. Only Spain have shown themselves capable of beating the top teams on a consistent basis and now Germany are fast approaching that level if they are not already there.

If Germany win Euro 2012 then this will be a culmination of 12 years of hard work and preparation for international success. It is well known now that Germany reformed and restructured their entire program when it came to the national team after Euro 2000 where they failed to qualify from the group stages. One has to admire their drive for success at international level and any country that puts in that amount of effort deserves their rewards.
