Vermaelen eager to battle for place

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has revealed his determination to fight for a place in the starting line-up at the Gunners next season.

The 27-year-old struggled to nail down a place in the starting XI towards the end of last season and only managed one start in their last 10 Premier League outings.  Vermaelen has insisted he is happy at Arsenal and plans to earn back his starting place with the Gunners, who are 14/1 with bet365 to win the  Premier League next season. He said: "I'm happy at Arsenal. I didn't play much and that was frustrating, but things can turn around quickly. "I was on the bench, but I  could just as quickly be playing again. I'm working hard to make that happen."
