Value Alert: Newcastle to bounce back at Hawthorns

20Apr 2013

England - Premier League

Before the weekend's Premier League fixtures get under way, Christian Crowther sees what the Value Finder has to say...

The Value Alert widget contrasts odds calculated using an algorithm that takes into account short and long-term form, variation in home and away performance, records  against teams in specific parts of the table and recent head-to-head results with the latest Betfair prices.

This flags up the area in which public perception most contradicts statistical evidence in either the match odds or over/under 2.5 goals market, identifying potential  back or lay value.

In this column last week, the Value Finder's worth was proved again by alerting punters to the potential riches of a famous Sunderland win for new manager Paolo Di  Canio.

And so it proved, though not even the barmy Italian could have expected to be knee-sliding along the St James' Park touchline as the third goal flew in past Newcastle.

If you backed the Mackems to claim the points in the north-east derby, taking advantage of an extra 0.80 in value in the process, then congratulations to you.

That's enough gloating though. On to this weekend's Premier League action and the widget has found plenty of discrepancy in pure form against the offered price.

After their humiliation last week, Newcastle will be expected to bounce back at West Brom, a ground that should be receptive to their quest for much-needed points.

Last season saw Alan Pardew's side triumph in convincing fashion, recording a 3-1 win in the midlands to make it three victories from their last four Premier League  trips to the Hawthorns.

The Magpies' chances of completing their first league double of the season this Saturday are rated at 3.45 but the Value Finder flags up 0.61 of extra value on Betfair.

Elsewhere, the Under 2.5 goals market at Loftus Road is cited as QPR cling on to the coat tails of hope.

With visiting Stoke in freefall, the stakes couldn't be higher, which looks set to instigate a nervous affair.

Neither side has been able to find the net regularly enough. Stoke have notched just once in their last four league games with three of those finishing shy of the 2.5  goals mark.

Just one goal in two games for Harry Redknapp's side highlights the worthwhileness of backing Under 2.5 goals at 1.75.
