Value Alert: Di Canio can get Sunderland a derby win

14Apr 2013

England - Premier League

In these days of austerity, everyone likes to get value for money. Betting is no different, so Betfair came up with the Value Finder...

If you followed the Value Finder's assertion that there was value in Everton's win price at Tottenham last weekend, hopefully you remembered to cash out just before  the 87th minute!

Wigan backers at QPR meanwhile would have felt short-changed after the Latics failed to capitalise on 70 minutes with a man advantage at Loftus Road.

Bobby Zamora's karate move on Jordi Gomez and subsequent red card really should have initiated Roberto Martinez's side taking all three points, instead of having to  rescue a draw at the death.

Shaun Maloney's expertly taken free-kick was an absolute sickener for R's fans and now Harry Redknapp's side must surely win at least five of their remaining six games  to pull off the impossible, starting at Goodison Park.

Interestingly, this is one of the upcoming Premier League fixtures that the widget has flashed up for a sizeable value alert.

Based on its pure-form algorithm, the Value Finder has denoted a 2.80 difference between QPR's Betfair price of 8.8 to stun Everton and its own price for the R's to  kick-off a survival surge on Merseyside.

On closer inspection, this is not quite as outrageous a prediction as it might appear. The sides played out a draw in their October encounter at Loftus Road and two of  the strugglers' four wins this season have arrived away from home, including that triumph over Chelsea.

Elsewhere, Fulham are 3.5 to win away at Aston Villa, a team that the Cottagers have already conquered this season.

And the widget has suggested value maybe a-lurking in the midlands. Despite losing to a stoppage-time winner at St James' Park last Sunday, Martin Jol's side had just  gone five league games unbeaten, winning three of those, so they're clearly in good form.

Finally, according to the Value Finder, it's worth considering a first win for Paolo Di Canio in the Tyne-Wear derby at 4.7 and squeezing out 0.80 of value.

Newcastle will have had barely three days to recover from their Europa League quarter-final exit to Benfica when they run out at St James' Park.
