The Big Wednesday Multiple: All around the world - Part Two
It's that time of the week where Paul Robinson selects a home win, an away win, a match to go over 2.5 goals and a match to go under 2.5 goals. Here are his selections:
Bet 1: AIK (HOME) @ 1.72 (8/11)
We begin in Sweden as AIK take on bottom of the table Djurgården. The visitors have won their last two but they remain rooted in 16th place and the hosts should have enough quality to take all three points this evening.
AIK are eighth after three wins, three draws and three defeats from their opening nine fixtures. They finished fourth last term so they will be looking to kick on now and start to challenge for the European places, with this should be a good starting point.
Andreas Alm's men have only won once at the Friends Arena this season but that victory did come last time out at the expense of second placed, IFK Goteborg.
Djurgarden began their campaign in dismal fashion under new boss, Per-Mathias Høgmo. The Blue Stripes lost six of their initial seven matches with the only respite being a draw at home to Brommapojkarna.
They've turned that around in the past fortnight as they beat Malmo FF and Halmstad. Those wins were at home though and I'm not confident that they will be able to keep up that form on the road, especially considering they've shipped 14 goals in four away games thus far.
Bet 2: Sparta Prague (AWAY) @ 1.4 (2/5)
It's Czech Liga time now as Sparta Prague have just three games left of the season to catch Viktoria Plzen in first place. They travel to Zbrojovka Brno this evening and they have to win at all costs.
Sparta Prague have enjoyed a decent campaign under boss, Vítìzslav Lavièka. They're still in contention for the title - seven points clear of third - and they made it through to the knockout phase of the Europa League.
They were handed a lifeline last week when Plzen were beaten and they will be looking to take advantage of any further slip ups - with the leaders facing a tricky trip to fourth placed Sigma Olomouc in a game that kicks off an hour before this one.
Sparta lost their last away match but prior to that they were seven unbeaten in the league and had racked up four straight victories. Conversely, their opponents have won just three of their last 17 and are down in 12th place.
'The Gun' as they're known haven't been firing lately, but luckily for them, the four point cushion they have between themselves and the relegation zone should prove sufficient at this late stage in the campaign.
Bet 3: Independiente v Boca Unidos (Over 2.5 goals) @ 2.05 (21/20)
With a degree of trepidation, our search for goals takes us to Argentina for a Copa Argentina clash between Independiente and Boca Unidos. Chasing over 2.5 in this country can be dangerous but this one has a few ingredients that point to goals and the odds are generous.
Independiente are on a good run at the moment - nine points from a possible 12 in the Primera Division and they netted three goals last time out. Miguel Ángel Brindisi's side also scored three in their home game prior to that and they've not kept a clean sheet at Estadio Libertadores de América in any of their last five.
They should have far too much class for lower league, Boca Unidos, tonight and it's foreseeable that they'll knock in two or three goals. Given the frailty of the home defence though, Boca could well nick one and they have at least scored in two of their last four away games.
This is the final tie of the last 32 to be completed and while only six of the other 15 have gone over 2.5 goals, I think that it's definitely a value bet for this to be the seventh.
Bet 4: Asteras Tripolis v PAOK (Under 2.5 goals) @ 1.44 (4/9)
PAOK let us down for our under 2.5 goals leg last week but I'm giving them a second chance today. It was 0-0 at half time last Wednesday but an injury time winner denied us as PAOK fell to a 2-1 defeat.
This match is part of the Greek Super League Champions League/Europa League Play-offs and after all four sides have played two each, Asteras Tripolis are in second and PAOK in third.
Asteras Tripolis matches aren't renowned for goals - especially at Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium. Eight of the last 12 there have had two or less and on all seven occasions that PAOK have visited, the game has finished with under 2.5 goals scored.
PAOK have had a nightmare in the play-offs thus far as they've seen their four point head-start wiped away after just two fixtures. They lost at Atromitos as mentioned and followed that up with a 0-1 home defeat to PAS Giannina on Sunday.
Avoiding defeat is their main priority to steady the ship this evening and I can see them playing for a 0-0, with the outside chance of nicking a goal on the break. Five of their last seven on the road have gone under and that includes three 0-0's.
