Survival instincts kick in for Martinez

England - Premier League

Roberto Martinez will not give personal landmarks a second thought until he knows Wigan have secured their Premier League status.

The Spaniard takes charge of his 150th Premier League match for the club on Tuesday, but Martinez says that will count for nothing if his players fail to pick up three crucial points against Swansea. A win would get Latics out of the bottom three on goal difference with two games to go and the 39-year-old admits top-flight survival is his number one priority. The DW Stadium club are priced 11/10 by bet365 in the Premier League relegation outright betting, with Norwich priced 3/1. "I never really take much notice of landmarks but 150 games is an incredible number," said Martinez. "There's not many managers who have done it, put it that way." He added: "Each week the table has its twists and turns so for me the only thing to focus on is the opportunity to add more points to our tally." Jean Beasejour will miss the visit of the League Cup winners because of a hamstring strain, Antolin Alcaraz is unlikely to return but James McArthur may earn a recall after being rested at the weekend.
