Spain vs France
This evening sees the third quarter final between the reigning World and European Champions Spain and France. With the elimination of Greece and the Czech Republic then the remaining five fixtures in this Euro 2012 event will all be heavyweight affairs. Spain have been below their previous best in recent tournaments but they are still in with a great chance of making history by becoming the first team to win three consecutive major international tournaments.
France started the group stages well drawing 1-1 with England and then beating the co-hosts Ukraine 2-0. But there once again appears to be problems within the French camp just like there was in the last World Cup and any team without unity has little chance of winning any tournament. Spain will start as favourites but there is more than enough quality in the French side to get a result this evening.
It certainly woudn't be too much of a shock if France beat Spain tonight when you consider that they have the likes of Ribery, Nasri and Benzema on the pitch. These are all top class players that play their football in the toughest leagues in the world playing for the best teams. Italy showed in the first group game that Spain are vulnerable but no team in world football keeps the ball better than Spain and that is the problem that France will have to cope with. The winner of tonights match plays Portugal in the semi-final.
