Southampton to battle back and beat Swans
With the help of Opta, Christian Crowther suggests a few tasty punts for the weekend's Premier League action...
Southampton v Swansea (Saturday, 15:00)
The Saints are the first team in Premier League history to trail in all of the first 10 matches of the season
If Nigel Adkins is still around at St Mary's to make a January shopping list, a few defenders with extensive Premier League experience should be the only item on it. Southampton have some wonderful players in attack and also play great football at times but they are just way too easy to slice through on the counter. A match against Swansea - winless and goalless in their last three away games - should offer some relief for the south coast outfit. A clean sheet seems unlikely however.
Everton v Sunderland (Saturday, 15:00)
Everton have attempted 200 shots this season (including blocked), more than any other team in any of Europe's big five leagues
If Sunderland want to find a cure for their goalscoring malaise then they ought to take a leaf out of Everton's book. The Toffees are clearly not shy of 'having a go' and this is reflected by the fact they have banged in at least two goals in six of their last seven Premier League games. The Goodison Park faithful have witnessed their fair share of net-busting action too with eight Everton goals in four league games. By contrast, Sunderland have managed just one goal in five games across all competitions - an own goal.
Stoke v QPR (Saturday, 15:00)
The R's are without a win in 18 top-flight away games, losing 15 of them. Their last away win was at Stoke
To the neutral observer, Mark Hughes appears to be a lucky man to have been given the leeway to continue at QPR despite not yet registering a Premier League win this season. In the Welshman's defence, QPR have been unlucky with injuries and encouragingly for Hoops fans have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks. A visit to Stoke has lost some of its fear factor this season and happy memories for Rangers of a 3-2 Britannia victory last year may just inspire that first three points.
Wigan v West Brom (Saturday, 15:00)
This is the ninth Premier League meeting between Wigan and West Brom and the Latics' four wins have been the odd-numbered ones (first, third, fifth and seventh)
Surley there are not many more pertinent omens to suggest Wigan are going to win their third Premier League game on the bounce on Saturday than this stat. Well, other than that they face West Brom off the back of one of the best performances the Latics have ever produced under Roberto Martinez at White Hart Lane in beating Tottenham. Although the Baggies are formidable at home, they make lousy travellers this season and are yet to register an away win in four league matches, losing twice.
