Smalling desperate to maintain the gap

England - Premier League

Chris Smalling is refusing to accept that Manchester United have already won this season's Premier League title even though they have a 12-point lead at the top of the table.

The former Fulham defender insists that the United players are refusing to take their foot off the pedal as they are still haunted by last season's collapse which saw them pipped to the crown by Manchester City. The Red Devils face Reading on Saturday evening at Old Trafford and are available at 12/1 with bet365 to thrash the managerless visitors 5-0. Smalling, 28/1 to open the scoring against the Royals, admits: "Everybody is a bit more cautious after what happened last season, where there were only a handful of games left but we threw away eight points. "If it hadn't happened last season I don't think we'd be quite so cautious about talking about it, but we're definitely determined to maintain the gap this time."
