Saints to rise above Sunderland

Andrew Hughes thinks Southampton can pick up another home win and help land a Saturday cross-sport multiple in the process.

Betfair now gives you the facility to mix and match your multiples across a huge range of sports and markets with the easy-to-use betslip and so each weekend I've been  putting together a cross-sport treble with the aim of showing the way to maximise your profits.

Bet 1: Back Southampton to beat Sunderland at 2.15

Seventeenth in the table, with only a superior goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone, Southampton still have a lot of work to do to if they are to secure their  Premier League status.

But the league table doesn't tell the whole truth. After a shaky start, Nigel Adkins has not rested in his attempts to get his team to adapt to life in the top tier and his efforts  are paying off. Three wins in their last five is a healthy return and their home form has become particularly impressive, with eight points from their last four.

Sunderland are just one place above the Saints but heading in the opposite direction. They've won just two of their last thirteen Premier League fixtures and have only one  away win in their last sixteen. Back Southampton to bag all three points and pull further away from relegation trouble.

Bet 2: Back Bath to beat Saracens at 2.08

On the face of it, Bath have their work cut out when they welcome high-flying Saracens on Saturday. Sarries are poised on the shoulders of Harlequins at the top of the Aviva  Premiership whilst the home side are languishing in mid-table.

The visitors will also be high on confidence, after prevailing against Munster in the Heineken Cup game last weekend, a result that gives them an excellent chance of making  the quarter-finals in Europe.

But Bath have also enjoyed their recent European excursions, having thrashed Calvisano twice in Amlin Challenge Cup fixtures. They also have an excellent record at the  Rec, having lost just one of their seven home fixtures this season, and whilst Saracens are a formidable threat, they can struggle on their travels, with all four of their defeats  coming away from home. Back Bath to spring a surprise on Saturday.

Bet 3: Back Ronnie Baxter to beat Kevin Painter at 2.05

Kevin Painter has come up against Ronnie Baxter 27 times in his career and has lost 18 of those meetings. So it's something of a surprise to see The Artist marginal  favourite to prevail in Saturday's second round match at the PDC World Championships.

It's even more surprising when you bear in mind that Baxter has won eight of their last nine encounters and though Painter fares slightly better when you just count World  Championship meetings, he still has a losing record against the Rocket.

Baxter showed glimpses of his best high-scoring form in his opening match against Dennis Priestly, whilst Painter, who had been out of sorts in the lead up to this  tournament was not really tested by Leung Chen Nam. Back Baxter to prevail and make the third round.
