Rugby Union: Ireland turn to Schmidt
Joe Schmidt will be keen to end his spell in charge of Leinster in style after the Irish RFU confirmed that they have chosen the New Zealander to be Declan Kidney's successor as Ireland head coach.
Schmidt, who coached Bay of Plenty, Auckland Blues and Clermont before joining Leinster in 2010, has enjoyed a successful time in charge of the Irish province. He guided Leinster to Heineken Cup triumphs in 2011 and 2012, and to this season's Amlin Challenge Cup Final following Saturday's semi-final win over holders Biarritz. They have also qualified for the Pro12 play-offs and are 5/4 with bet365 to win the Grand Final, as well as being 1/10 to secure the Amlin Challenge Cup. Schmidt is expected to sign a three-year deal with the Irish RFU which will run until the end of the 2015-16 season.
