PSV to struggle in Dutch Cup
PSV travel to Zwolle for the semi-final of the Dutch Cup and while they have a decent chance of winning, Paul Robinson thinks that their odds are far too short.
Three wins in a row now and if we can make it a fourth tonight we'll be in touching distance of profit for 2013. I'm taking on another shorty and backing Zwolle to get back into my good books after Saturday's last gasp loss.
Zwolle have had a remarkable run in the Dutch Cup considering their league position. Last year's Eerste Divisie Champions are down in 15th place in the Eredivisie, but have somehow made it through to the semi-final of this competition, despite having three of their four ties away from home.
Art Langeler's side are back on home soil this evening though and they are within touching distance of reaching just their third ever cup final, having never won the trophy. Their recent form is actually pretty decent; the loss at Groningen last time was only their third defeat in 14 matches and that run includes a 3-1 victory at none other than PSV back in January.
PSV are flying high in the league and have a good chance of winning their first league title since 2008. They are the current holders of this trophy as well and a repeat success would echo their spell in the late 80s where they won it three years straight.
Dick Advocaat's men didn't perform too well in the Europa League though as they crashed out in the group stage with just two victories and they were beaten at the weekend by Feyenoord. That trip to Rotterdam was actually their second successive game where they failed to win away, as before that they were held by 10 man Vitesse.
Zwolle claimed their first ever victory over PSV a few short weeks ago and while they are still outsiders for this clash, despite having home advantage, PSV are just too short at 1.5 to get the job done in 90 minutes. That's why, at the prices, I have to make them my lay of the day.
