Premier League Injuries: Diame a big loss for West Ham
Mohamed Diame, Vincent Kompany and Ivan Ramis will all be severely missed by their clubs this weekend...
Vincent Kompany - Newcastle v Man City (Saturday, 12:45, Sky Sports 2)
Manchester City boast more mega-stars in their line up than almost any side in Europe, yet it's their captain fantastic who is surely the first name on Roberto Mancini's team sheet. Therefore the sight of his skipper trudging off grimace-faced, clutching his hamstring after barely 20 minutes of their biggest game of the season on Sunday would have caused the Italian grave concern. As it proved, those fears were fully realised minutes after Kompany's enforced departure as Wayne Rooney added his second goal, and it was always going to be uphill from there. Mancini has seemingly lost faith with Joleon Lescott and chose to bring on Kolo Toure to accompany the inexperienced Matija Nastasti, but, without Kompany, any other combination looks vulnerable.
Recommended Bet: Back both teams to score @ 1.77
Ivan Ramis - Norwich v Wigan (Saturday, 15:00)
With every season that passes, Wigan somehow manage to survive and it's mainly because Roberto Martinez's side are capable of beating the very best on their day. However, as Latics fans would point out, the same Wigan team are also just as accomplished when it comes to conceding goals and dropping points. Martinez's men have been doing much more of the latter in the last few weeks and it's no coincidence that a run of three games since Ivan Ramis limped out of Wigan's last victory over Reading have returned one point from nine and seven goals against. The experienced Spaniard has excelled for the Latics at the back this season and his presence is clearly missed. Now Wigan travel to in-form Norwich, possibly missing another senior centre back in captain Gary Caldwell and looking likely to ship goals again.
Recommended Bet: Back over 3.5 goals @ 3.4
Mohamed Diame - West Brom v West Ham (Sunday, 16:00, Sky Sports 1)
When Diame hobbled off against Liverpool last Sunday with 17 minutes left, his team were 2-1 in front and looking every bit like cruising to victory. It turned out to be quite the opposite, as just three minutes after Dimae's departure, Joe Cole had drawn the visitors level and given Liverpool the belief to go on and win the game. As in many of West Ham's games this season, the Senegalese powerhouse was the Londoners' best performer. Diame had been central to all the good work West Ham produced, as his driving runs had caused Liverpool problems all afternoon. Unfortunately for Hammers fans, without Diame, they lose some dynamism and, as we have seen against Arsenal and Chelsea, a goal threat as well.
Recommended Bet: Back West Brom to beat West Ham @ 2.06
