Premier League Injuries: Cech-less Chelsea look at risk

12Jan 2013

England - Premier League

Petr Cech, Carlos Cuellar and Junior Hoilett will all be missed by their clubs in the Premier League this weekend...

Junior Hoilett - QPR v Tottenham (Saturday, 12:45, Sky Sports 1)

Harry Redknapp will welcome a large crop of his former disciples to Loftus Road on Saturday lunchtime, but will still be desperate to snatch all three points away from Tottenham. However, stopping this dangerous Spurs side he helped to create - searching for their fifth straight win - promises to be a Herculean task given the resources now available to him across the capital. One thing the Rangers boss could do without in his quest to turn around their fortunes is injuries to his brightest lights such as Hoilett. The creative Canadian winger has endured a season blighted by injury and is now out once more after sustaining a hamstring pull at Stamford Bridge. It's a real blow for the joint lowest scorers in the top-flight, who just don't create enough chances.

Recommended Bet: Back Tottenham to win to nil @ 2.82

Petr Cech - Stoke v Chelsea (Saturday, 15:00)

Poor old Ross Turnbull was left more exposed than Tiger Woods' private life on Wednesday night as Branislav Ivanovic twice committed defensive suicide at Stamford Bridge. While the Englishman is undoubtedly blameless for the second, there was a still a hint of naivety involved in him rolling the ball out to Ivanovic the first time with Jonathan De Guzman already trotting towards the unknowing Serbian. What Chelsea really need this weekend is a bit of experience against this wily Stoke side, who will relish peppering the out-of-practice keeper's 18-yard box with as many testing balls as possible. Chelsea normally fare well at Stoke but, without Cech and possibly still John Terry, they could be vulnerable to aerial bombardment.

Recommended Bet: Back both teams to score @ 1.89

Carlos Cuellar - Sunderland v West Ham (Saturday, 15:00)

Sunderland were already suffering from a depletion in defensive resources before two more of their first-choice line-up pulled up at Bolton in the FA Cup. It's now believed that Carlos Cuellar and Danny Rose will both be out for a number of weeks with hamstring injuries. This is grave news for Martin O'Neill who has already lost Wes Brown to a long-term knee ligament injury with no set date for a return, as well as John O'Shea, who is also suffering from the winter curse of the hamstring and won't be back for the visit of West Ham. It promises to be a heavily patched up defence O'Neill calls upon at the Stadium of Light.

Recommended Bet: Back West Ham to score two or more goals @ 3.15
