With all the talk surrounding a move to England it appears Guardiola has thrown us all a curveball as German giants Bayern announce his signature...

Bayern Munich have just announced that Pep Guardiola will take over from the retiring Jupp Heynckes as manager at the end of the season.

The 41-year-old Spaniard has signed a three-year contract with the Bundesliga outfit which will keep him at the club until 2016.

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he can make not just Bayern,  but all of German football shine."

The news ends months of speculation surroundings Guardiola's next management destination after his decision to take a year's sabbatical from the game.

It now seems that all Guardiola's talk of his desire to manage in England was just a smokescreen ahead of this announcement, though it does still leave the door open  to a future move to the Premier League.

Guardiola had been speaking about the possibility of a future move to England at the 150th anniversary of the FA in London on Wednesday morning before this unexpected  news broke.

This does of course shed light on the situation at Chelsea where Rafa Benitez can be backed at 2.0 to be in charge of the Blues for the first game of the 2013/14 season.

Guardiola racked up three La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns in his time as manager at the Camp Nou.
