Rafael Nadal has the opportunity to add another chapter to his illustrious career when he goes in search of a ninth straight victory at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Nadal has proven to be almost unbeatable in Monte Carlo for almost a decade and is 1/66 with bet365 to make a winning start when he faces Marinko Matosevic in the second round on Wednesday. The left-hander's only loss in Monte Carlo came back in 2003, when a 16-year-old Nadal was beaten in straight sets in the third round by Guillermo Coria. However, Nadal is wary of over-confidence, telling reporters: "I don't feel like I am the biggest favourite to win this tournament this year. I think I'm a candidate. "It's not possible to win every year and someday that's going to stop. Nothing lasts forever and you have to accept that." Roger Federer has opted to miss the Monte Carlo Masters, leaving Nadal as third seed behind Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, with Djokovic having been troubled by a foot injury going into the tournament.
