Murray ready for tough Chardy test
Andy Murray is expecting a tough clash against Jeremy Chardy in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open after easing to victory against Gilles Simon in a one-sided fourth-round encounter in Melbourne.
Simon struggled throughout the contest and did not appear to have recovered from his epic victory against Gael Monfils in the previous round. Simon had eventually overcome his fellow Frenchman 6-4 6-4 4-6 1-6 8-6 in a match that lasted more than five hours. British number one Murray, 9/4 with bet365 to win the Australian Open, was in no mood to feel sorry for Simon as he powered to a 6-3 6-1 6-3 victory in just one hour and 32 minutes. Murray has yet to drop a set in four matches in Melbourne, in sharp contrast to Novak Djokovic who beat Stanislas Wawrinka in five sets on Sunday and is 5/6 to retain the title he secured 12 months ago. Murray said of Chardy, who beat the 21st seed Andreas Seppi of Italy 5-7 6-3 6-2 6-2 to reach the last eight: "He has had two very good wins and beat Juan Martin del Potro a few days ago so it's going be another tough match."
