Michu a real contender for top scorer

Michu is top of the Premier League scoring charts after firing in another two goals on Saturday, but can Swansea's Spanish sensation maintain his form?

Swansea's purple patch may have come to an unexpected end against Norwich, though it didn't stop their prolific Spaniard from netting himself a second successive brace - making it six league goals from his last five starts and 12 for the season.

Signed by Swans boss Michael Laudrup from Rayo Vallecano in the summer, it beggars belief that Michu, who now leads Robin van Persie by one in the Premier League scorers charts, was snaffled for just £2 million.

The transaction looks all the more wondrous when you consider that Michu banged in 15 goals in La Liga last season for a side which finished just two points above the drop zone.

More impressively still, those goals arrived when playing in a slightly deeper role at Rayo, making him the highest scoring midfielder in the Spanish top flight. Yet astonishingly, Michu managed to slip under the radar of Europe's top clubs.

Now, with the transfer window looming, Laudrup has announced his prize asset is worth £30 million, in order to try and stave off unwanted interest, though that doesn't look likely to keep the big boys away.

Liverpool are said to be hovering if they can't secure the services of forward target Daniel Sturridge in January, though any offer for Michu would likely come well under Laudrup's valuation.

Still, with such illustrious company vying to be English football's top marksman, can Michu, who is available at 13.5, sustain his glorious start and finish as the league's top scorer?

The answer at this stage has to be an unequivocal yes. Michu is relishing playing in the withdrawn striker's role at the Liberty and his sizable frame also makes him suitable to spearhead the attack if necessary.

He is awesome in the air and technically gifted and, as he demonstrated so beautifully against Arsenal, he also has the ability to finish calmly in one-on-one situations.

Despite a first-half meltdown against the Canaries, Swansea are now playing with a real swagger and, if they can sustain this, Michu will be a real contender for the top prize.

Obviously there are some others who are still more favourable at this stage though, such as last season's winner RVP, who can be backed at 3.15 and Liverpool's Uruguayan hotshot Luis Suarez, just one goal further back and available at 5.5.

Jermain Defoe is finally getting the run he deserves at Tottenham as well and his goals (9) can't be ignored either. He is currently priced at 14.0.
