Martinez compensation agreed

England - Premier League

Roberto Martinez is on the verge of being named as Everton's new manager after Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan revealed that a compensation package had been agreed between the two clubs.

Martinez recently told the Latics, who are 4/1 with bet365 to be promoted from the Championship in the 2013-14 season, that he would not be staying on at the DW Stadium. The Toffees, 20/1 to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season, will now begin contract talks with the Spaniard with a view to making a quick appointment. "I reached some terms with the chairman, Bill (Kenwright), of Everton at about six o'clock on Monday evening," Whelan revealed. "He can now talk to Everton because Bill and myself have sorted the compensation."
