Liverpool play down Suarez exit talk
Liverpool insist Luis Suarez was misquoted when the Uruguayan hinted that he would not be averse to leaving Anfield and moving to a club that could guarantee him Champions League football.
The Reds seem certain to miss out on Champions League football for a fourth successive campaign as they are currently seventh in the Premier League table, nine points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham with only eight matches of the season remaining. Suarez, who has scored 29 goals for Liverpool so far this season in all competitions and is 4/9 with bet365 to be the Premier League's top scorer, was reported to have said: "If another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games, which is willing to have [me], they are welcome." However, chief executive Ian Ayre said the former Ajax star's words had been lost in translation, adding "He has a four-year contract. We hope he will see it through. We have no desire to sell Luis. He is a fantastic player and a great contributor to our team." Liverpool can be backed at 20/1 to finish in the top four this season.
