Liverpool and Spurs crash out plus fifth round draw
The shock weekend of FA Cup results continued today with Tottenham and Liverpool losing to lower-league opposition. Mike Norman details the In-Play odds and brings us the fifth round draw...
If you thought Norwich and QPR losing at home to lower-league sides were going to be the big shocks of this weekend's FA Cup fourth round, then you thought wrong.
This afternoon not one of Chelsea (v Brentford), Tottenham (v Leeds), or Liverpool (v Oldham) could manage a victory to lower-league opposition but at least the Blues survived to fight another day, which is more than can be said for Spurs and Liverpool.
Oldham Athletic had lost eight and drawn one (against Scunthrope) of their previous nine League One outings and were as high as 18.5 in the Match Odds market to beat their Premier League opponents, but beat them they did.
Matt Smith was matched at 55.0 to score two goals or more and at 34.0 to open the scoring and he did precisely that to reward his followers. Reece Wabara got Oldham's third and Liverpool just couldn't get back into the game.
Joe Allen got a late consolation following Luis Suarez's first half effort, but the Reds are out - the 3-2 Correct Score being matched at a massive 200.0.
Tottenham suffered a less humiliating defeat away to Championship side Leeds but the 2-1 loss (matched at 28.0) will still come as a huge blow to Andre Villas- Boas.
Luke Varney put Neil Warnock's men in front before Ross McCormack blasted home to give the home side a 2-0 lead shortly after the interval. Spurs - who were without a recognised striker - had Clint Dempsey to thank for getting them back into the game but that was as good as it got with Leeds full value for their victory.
The 2-1 Correct Score was matched at 28.0 with a Leeds win hitting no higher than 7.6 In-Play.
In the day's early game Chelsea had to twice come from behind to earn a replay with League One side Brentford. Marcello Trotta - matched at 24.0 to score first - put the Bees ahead before Harry Forrester regained the lead for the home side after Oscar head earlier equalised.
It was left to Fernando Torres to save Chelsea's blushes seven minutes from time with a terrific curling finish from the edge of the box. The 2-2 Correct Score was matched at 55.0 In-Play.
Oldham's shock win was rewarded with another home tie in round five, this time against Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton, while Leeds will travel to Premier League champtions Manchester City.
Chelsea and Brentford must replay at Stamford Bridge with the winners having a long trip to Championship side Middlesbrough in the next round. Man City and Man Utd head the FA Cup Winner market, both priced at around the 3.8 mark with Chelsea (5.9) and Arsenal (7.0) close behind. Today's winners Leeds are available to back at 150.0, while Oldham can be matched at 330.0 currently.
