Lambert looks for response

England - Capital One Cup

Paul Lambert has told Aston Villa fans to expect a "totally different game" when Bradford City visit Villa Park for the return leg of the Capital One Cup semi-finals.

The Midlands club - priced 13/2 to win the competition - fell to a 3-1 defeat against the League Two side at Valley Parade on Tuesday and could now miss out on a Wembley appearance. Andreas Weimann managed a consolation goal for the visitors to keep the tie alive and Lambert, who was critical of his side's defending, insisted he had not given up on his hopes of landing some major silverware. "At any level of football, you can't defend set-plays like that and expect to win games of football," Lambert said. "But we're still in the tie, absolutely. It will be a different game at Villa Park. We had lots of chances to score and we never took them, but it's only half-time." He added: "It will be a totally different game at Villa Park, but when chances come our way we have to take them." Aston Villa - quoted 4/9 in the 'not to be relegated' betting - return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host Southampton in a crucial game between two sides at the wrong end of the table.
