Lambert hails Villa performance

England - Premier League

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert feels his side have taken a big step towards survival following Monday's 6-1 win over Sunderland.

Villa led 2-1 at the break but dominated the second-half as Christian Benteke hit a hat-trick and Gabby Agbonlahor scored a late goal, leaving Lambert delighted with the display. "When you have a front three like ours, you have an absolute threat," Lambert said. "I can't speak highly enough of Christian. People don't remember he's only 22. If he keeps his feet on the ground, he has a great future. "Everybody can see his technique for a big lad is marvellous. First and foremost, we have won, pulled away from Wigan and brought other teams into it. But we have turned our goal difference around. That's a bonus and it could be significant." Villa are now priced at 7/1 to be relegated with bet365 following Monday's victory, Sunderland are 12/1 to go down and Wigan can be backed at 2/5 to slip through the relegation trap door.
