Jol going double Dutch in a bid to steady Fulham's ship
Struggling on all frontiers, Fulham are in need of a shake-up, but can the Cottagers add to their slender squad before the window closes?
At the Premier League's ten-game mark, Fulham were going along rather nicely in eighth place and looking forward to another season of mid-table comfort.
Since that point though, the Cottagers have made hard work of all matters domestic, winning just two of the subsequent 13 league games, while they are already out of both the cups.
Manager Martin Jol has always, despite this slump in his second season in charge, cut a figure of calmness. However, his side's current residence in 14th - just five points clear of danger - will have Whites fans sweating even if the Dutchman isn't.
Fulham can currently be backed at around 15.5 to finish the season in the bottom three.
Something clearly needs to change if Jol is to cure the malaise which has set in at Craven Cottage and bringing in some fresh blood before the window closes looks vital.
Jol has already begun to address the situation in securing Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong on loan until the end of the season, though the combative 21-year-old on his own may not prove enough to steady the ship.
The good news for Fulham fans is that it looks like Jol will be adding at least one more player befire the deadline and possibly even two.
Jol has opted for 26-year-old winger Urby Emanuelson, a player he knows well after managing him at Ajax, who is set to join on loan from AC Milan after falling down the pecking order at the San Siro.
The deal looks like it will be completed this week providing the player passes his medical. Emanuelson should provide Fulham with some extra craft out wide and is also versatile enough to play at left back if required.
As well as this, Jol is also hoping to secure the services of another of his compatriots and former Ajax charges who is currently plying his trade in Italian football.
Roma's 30-year-old Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg has fuelled speculation of a move to Fulham following angry comments made to reporters in response to his recent benching at the Giallorossi.
