Robert Thornton fears that he will not be able to ride again this season after suffering a heavy fall at Southwell.

The 34-year-old has already been told he will definitely miss next week's Cheltenham Festival. He hit the turf with considerable force when he was thrown from Our Phylli Vera in front of Lilac Belle, bringing that horse and jockey Killian Moore down. Tests have confirmed Thornton's worst fears and he tweeted on Wednesday: "Few tests yesterday, not great news looks like I'll be missing the rest of the season!" Rock On Ruby is 6/1 with bet365 to win the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, while Hurricane Fly can be backed at 7/4.
