Home and Away: Rennes looking to pile misery on rock bottom Troyes
Jonno Turner swerves the glamour of the Champions League as he looks to action in the French second tier and the German Regionalliga...
We're off to Ligue 2 for our first pick of the day - as two out of sorts sides meet at the Route de Lorient, where Rennes welcome Troyes.
The hosts go into this clash having lost their last four - but their form on their own patch is not actually too bad, and they have lost just two of their previous half a dozen outings.
That leaves Frederic Antonetti's charges sitting 10th in the table, and they will be eyeing this clash with bottom side Troyes as the perfect opportunity to stop the rot and get back on track.
Their visitors are cast out at the foot of the table, and are four points behind their nearest rivals Brest - and nine from safety.
Jean Marc Furlan's side haved struggled since gaining promotion back to the top tier last season, and the Stade de l'Aube club have not won a Ligue 1 game on the road since the December 2006 - a miserable run which consists 26 outings.
The last time these two sides met, Rennes came out on top in a 3-2 victory - and I expect them to get the better of their opponents once again this evening.
Bet 1: Rennes (HOME) @ 1.92
Switching our attentions to action in Germany now - and the Nordost Regionalliga, as Magdeburg host Carl Zeiss Jena at the MDCC Arena.
The home side line up for this one having won just one of their last six on their own patch, and will be keen to arrest that slump as they aim to improve on their current league position of seventh - and pile the pressure onto those above them.
Andreas Petersen's charges are just three points behind Meuselwitz in fourth, and will be desperate to close that gap by taking maximum points in this clash.
But the Saxony-Anhalt side have looked weak at the back of late - and have shipped 14 goals in their last half a dozen outings, which suggests that they may struggle against an in-form Carl Zeiss Jena.
The visitors sit second in the table ahead of this one, and just one loss all season shows how difficult to beat Petrick Sander has made this side.
Three wins from four will have the away side full of confidence as they travel to the MDCC Arena, and 12 goals notched in their last five suggests that they are on a bit of a hot streak in the final third at the moment.
Sander's side haven't lost in seven on the road, and four clean sheets in that time underlines their dominance - which I think will come to the fore once again this evening.
Bet 2: Carl Zeiss Jena (AWAY) @ 2.48
