Home and Away: Caen looking to heap misery on struggling Sedan

8Feb 2013

Ligue 2

Jonno Turner looks to end the week in style with two more picks from the continent to make up his Home and Away column.

We're off to France for our penultimate pick of the week - and it's a classic case of in-form versus out of sorts, as fourth placed Caen host bottom side Sedan at the Stade Michel d'Ornano, looking to pile more pressure on the top three.

Patrice Garande's side go into this one having won five of their last seven on their own patch, and clean sheets in all of those games suggest that the home side are more than capable of holding out their misfiring opponents this evening.

But 10 goals scored in their last seven in front of their own fans suggests that the Normandy side are not backwards at coming forwards either, and they will be looking to hit a Sedan side who have managed just one clean sheet in seven.

Garande does have some players missing for this encounter - including Mali international defender Molla Wague, and influential midfielder Laurent Agouazi - but Nicolas Seube, who sat out last weeks victory over Nimes, could be available once again.

But the likes of Mathieu Duhamel and Alexandre Cuvillier are firing on all cylinders, and will bebe eyeing the opportunity to add to their combined total of 12 goals so far this campaign.

Visitors Sedan travel to their hosts suffering from a blip of form which has seen them win just one of six, and it is no surprise that Laurent Guyot's side find themselves eight points from safety at the bottom of Ligue 2.

Two wins from 11 outings on the road indicates that the Stade Louis Duguaguez side may struggle in this clash, and 12 goals shipped in their last eight on their travels points to defensive weaknesses in Les Sangliers back line.

Guyot could look to make changes to his side following an off colour performance which saw his charges manage just a draw at home to fellow strugglers Clermont last week.

The hosts have lost just one of their last nine league meetings with Sedan, and I fancy their momentum to see them through this tie.

Bet 1: Caen (HOME) @ 1.68

Switching our attentions to the Netherlands now, and Den Bosch travel to Emmen, aiming to secure their third win from five on the road.

The Blue and White Dragons have smashed seven goals in those three wins, and boss Jan Poortvliet will be keen for his side to continue that attacking form in this clash.

But the 's-Hertogenbosch side currently sit 11th in the Eerste Divisie table following some inconsistent results on their own patch.

Two wins on the bounce to kick off February in style will have confidence high in the away camp though, and Poortvliet will be desperate for his side to build on that, and get some more points on the board.

Hosts Emmen go into this clash in miserable form, and sit 15th in the table - without a win in 10 league games.

That run stretches all the way back to October, and confidence will have taken a knock down at the Univé Stadion.

Boss Joop Gall will be feeling the pressure associated with his side having taken just 14 points from 17 outings, but just one clean sheet since September suggests that they may struggle to hold out their opponents in this one.
