Hodgson short on strike options
England head coach Roy Hodgson could be without both Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck for the friendly against Brazil in Rio on Sunday.
Sturridge suffered an ankle injury in the 1-1 Wembley draw with the Republic of Ireland, while Welbeck missed that game due to a knee problem which makes him a doubt for the trip to the 2014 World Cup hosts. "It is a major blow for him and for us," Hodgson said of Sturridge's setback. "I don't want to say it's a serious injury, but it'll keep him out for a period of time." Meanwhile, Welbeck will be given time to allow his knee injury to settle down, with Hodgson adding: "It's a question of whether we've got enough time between tomorrow and Sunday whether he plays. It will be touch and go, but he's not ruled out." England are 4/1 with bet365 to win in the Maracana Stadium on Sunday, having earned a famous 2-0 victory on their last visit in 1984, when John Barnes and Mark Hateley were the goalscorers.
