Heerenveen too short for Dutch clash

Heerenveen take on VVV in the Dutch Eredivisie at 18:45 this evening in a game that can be seen on Betfair Live Video and Paul Robinson thinks that viewers could be in for a shock result.

Heerenveen are having a poor campaign by their recent standards and last year's fifth placed finishers are down in 14th with 22 points after 21 matches played. The problem has been at the back for Marco Van Basten's side as with 40 goals conceded they have the fifth worst defensive record in the division.

The Super Frisians ended a three game winless streak last time out with a 1-0 victory away at RKC Waalwijk but their record at home lately isn't exactly stellar. They have won just one of their last five in all competitions, which includes a loss to Heracles and failure to beat Roda JC who are battling relegation.

Van Basten also has an injury crisis on his hands as they are likely to be without regulars Daniel de Ridder, Arnold Kruiswijk and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, while Ramon Zomer is suspended after being sent off in their last match.

VVV are down in 17th place with 15 points, just two points ahead of Willem II in the automatic relegation spot. After putting a decent little run together that saw them lose just one game in seven, they have slumped to four defeats in a row. Three of those were at home though and they've been doing much better on the road of late.

Ton Lokhoff's side have avoided defeat in three of their last five away from De Koel, holding both PEC Zwolle and Groningen to 0-0 draws and beating AZ back in November. While they did lose at Ajax and NAC Breda, they performed with credit in both of those games, only losing narrowly.

Heerenveen haven't found their stride yet this year and missing first team regulars isn't going to aid their cause. VVV are clearly still outsiders though but the price of the home team at around the 1.59 mark is just too short, and that's why I'm making them my lay of the day.
