Lewis Hamilton admits he was shocked when he read Martin Whitmarsh's recent comments that suggested the McLaren driver was having second thoughts about joining Mercedes at the end of this season.

McLaren Team Principal Whitmarsh suggested the 27-year-old, who announced he would be leaving the Woking-based outfit after the disappointment of his retirement at the Singapore Grand Prix in September, was unsure about signing for a Mercedes team that had won just one race in the last three years. However Hamilton, who is 7/4 with bet365 to be the fastest qualifier for this weekend's USA Grand Prix and 11/4 to win Sunday's race, said of Whitmarsh's comments: "I was a little bit surprised to hear that, it clearly is absolutely not the case. But I've got a great team and I've been with them for such a long time. "I'm sure everyone has emotions within the team, but I'm still here giving 100 per cent to them for the last two races. Of course it's quite emotional for me but I'm very, very happy with the decision that I've made."
