Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton has admitted his team got their tyre strategy wrong, with the Englishman set to start in fourth place on the grid for the Malaysian Grand Prix this weekend.

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, who is 15/8 with bet365 to win at Sepang on Sunday, will enjoy pole position after a fine display in qualifying Saturday. However Hamilton and team-mate Nico Rosberg failed to switch to intermediate tyres in changing conditions in South East Asia and ultimately dropped down the standings before Q3 came to an end. Hamilton said: "Of course putting new tyres on was the way to go. Our strategy was to stay out - we thought it would dry up more and it would work in our favour, but it didn't. "I want to be pole so initially when you get out of the car of course you don't think you're happy, I was working to get pole position as we were as a team."
