Grand Slam of Darts Tips: King to halt Machine
Groups A-D will be settled this evening and Jaymes Monte has picked out his best bet of the night...
By the time Mervyn King and James Wade cross paths this evening The King may already be through to the second round - if Jan Dekker beats Arron Monk in the night's opener King will progress - but regardless of the outcome in Group D's other match King only needs to win three legs to finish in the top two.
Convincing victories over Dekker and Monk have put King in a commanding position to qualify for the knockout stages of the Grand Slam of Darts, as he looks to go one better than last month's run to the final of the World Grand Prix. There's a confidence and authority about King's game at the moment, as he plays with an aura that suggests he is in complete control of what he is doing at the oche.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Wade's game. Thankfully The Machine is in considerably better health than he was in Dublin this time last month, and even commented that he enjoyed his win over Dekker on Sunday night. But, having taken an extended break from the game between majors, he's looking a little rusty around the edges and unless Dekker can do him a favour early in the night The Machine's Grand Slam journey looks set to conclude at the group stages this year.
King isn't the sort of player to get the three legs that he needs then forget about the remainder of the match. On current form he should be favourite to win this one, but Wade's reputation precedes him and we're all the more grateful for it.
