Golf: Mickelson hopes for Open boost
Phil Mickelson hopes that a decent showing at the St. Jude Classic will set him up nicely to finally end his US Open hoodoo.
The left-hander has finished in second place five times at the US Open and is 25/1 with bet365 to win the second Major of 2013 at Merion in Pennsylvania. Mickelson expects conditions at TPC Southwind in Memphis this week to be similar to those at Merion in a week's time, saying: "I know that for me to be sharp mentally, especially in a tournament where the penalty for missing is so great, like the US Open, it's important that I'm sharp and I'm ready to play. "The greens are small, they're difficult to get the ball stopped on and there are a lot of little shots around the greens. "The precision of the iron shot into the green, as well as the importance of hitting fairways here, is a similar style of golf that will happen at Merion next week."
