Gerrard to jump back on the scoring horse

Premier League

With the help of Opta, Christian Crowther picks out four scorers for this weekend's Premier League action...

Carlos Tevez - Newcastle v Man City (Saturday, 12:45, Sky Sports 2)

Carlos Tevez has netted four goals in six Premier League games against the Magpies

Both these sides will have a point to prove as they step out for the weekend's party-starter at St James' Park. Newcastle are firmly in the doldrums, crippled by injuries and in the midst of a terrible run which has seen them lose five of their last six league games. Therefore, they will not welcome facing the wounded champions, fresh from a pride-denting derby defeat and replete with Tevez, who was pivotal to City's comeback against Manchester United and will surely be handed a starting spot here.

Recommended Bet: Back Carlos Tevez to score @ 2.5

Steven Gerrard - Liverpool v Aston Villa (Saturday, 15:00)

Steven Gerrard has scored nine goals against Aston Villa, more than against any other opponent in his Premier League career

For a man whose standards are a few rungs higher than your average Premier League player, Liverpool's skipper would be the first to admit this has not been his most vintage campaign to date. Goals are normally such an integral part of Gerrard's game that the distinct dearth of them recently - one in 16 league starts - demands attention. However, this could well be attributed to the deeper role he has been asked to fulfil this season and, now that Lucas is back in the team, we should start to see the old Gerrard notching a few in the coming weeks, starting on Saturday.

Recommended Bet: Back Steven Gerrard to score @ 3.4

Sebastien Bassong - Norwich v Wigan (Saturday, 15:00)

Sebastien Bassong has now scored three goals in four Premier League appearances after only bagging two in his previous 94

Some defenders are well known for their ability to pop up with the odd goal from a set-piece and punters will have a few favourites like Gary Cahill and Thomas Vermaelen. One player who would not have appeared on many people's coupons until a few weeks ago is Bassong. That has changed however as the Frenchman has hit an unexpected vein of form that most strikers would be proud of and, against an extremely shaky Wigan defence, he may bolster his tally further.

Recommended Bet: Back Sebastien Bassong to score @ 13.0

Marouane Fellaini - Stoke v Everton (Saturday, 15:00)

Marouane Fellaini has scored five goals in his last seven Premier League games for Everton away from home

There aren't many superlatives left to be lavished on Everton's distinctive Belgian, who is fast turning in to one of the most sought after players in the Premier League. For now, at least, Fellaini is still wearing the blue of Everton and continuing to give defences the run around as part of possibly David Moyes' most exciting team at Goodison Park. As this stat illustrates, Fellaini is most deadly when his side take to the road.

Recommended Bet: Back Maroune Fellaini to score @ 3.95
