Fulham no match for United

Andrew Hughes thinks Manchester United will brush Fulham aside on Saturday and help land a cross-sport multiple in the process.

Bet 1: Back Man Utd to beat Fulham at 1.61

Fulham have been struggling since they sold Clint Dempsey and their win against West Ham in midweek was only their third in sixteen Premier League outings. If they are to extend their winning run to two, they'll have to overcome a United side that beat them 4-1 last weekend and that hasn't lost to the Londoners in seven meetings.

If that task wasn't tricky enough, Fulham will also be without Dimitar Berbatov, Steve Sidwell, Mahamadou Diarra, Kerim Frei and Keiran Richardson. United are still missing Ashley Young, but Johnny Evans and Rio Ferdinand are fit again to give Alex Ferguson extra defensive options.

They may need to make some changes, given their shaky defensive display in the win over Southampton on Wednesday, but they should have enough up front to brush aside a Fulham team that hasn't kept a clean sheet in ten games.

Bet 2: Back Ireland to beat Wales at 2.15

Wales have a good recent record against Ireland, having won their last three encounters, including last year's dramatic victory in Dublin, when they snatched the points with a last minute penalty from Leigh Halfpenny.

A lot has changed since then. After their Grand Slam, Wales went into a steep decline and lost seven games in a row. Ireland didn't set the rugby world alight in 2012 but they showed plenty of fight in Paris and New Zealand and they pushed South Africa close in Dublin, before ending the year on a high by thrashing the Pumas.

Crucially, Ireland's walking wounded are recovering, while the Welsh injury list lengthens. With Brian O'Driscoll, Rory Best, Sean O'Brien and Rob Kearney all back in the Irish starting XV, the men in green have the edge and can get their Six Nations campaign off to a flyer at the Millennium Stadium.

Bet 3: Back Captain Conan in the Scilly Isles Chase at 1.44

Nicky Henderson's six-year-old Captain Conan is prominent in the betting for both the Jewson and the Arkle, and he can warm up for Cheltenham by picking up his third Graded contest of the season.

He's already bagged the Arkle Trial and the Henry VIII Chase, and given the way he was staying on at the end of both those races, this step up to a touch over two-and-a-half miles should be no problem.

Houblon Des Obeaux is a strong stayer and is the main danger, but he doesn't look as classy as the favourite and on form, Changing Times is a long way short. The heavy going is a slight concern, but Captain Conan won on soft in France and Barry Geraghty should have no problem steering him to another victory.
