Group C in the European Championships is attracting less attention than the other groups simply because everybody is expecting the double World and European Champions Spain and the 2006 World Cup winners Italy to come first and second in this group at the expense of Ireland and Croatia. But what will be interesting is when Ireland face Italy and all eyes will be on Giovanni Trappatoni and if he could in actual fact send his home nation home early.

Spain are stand out favourites in the group but with only three games to play then there is no room for defeat. Ireland play Croatia in the first game and both sides will feel that they will need to win as Spain and Italy will follow for both of them. Spain are bidding to become the first ever European nation to win three successive international tournaments and that would be one of the biggest achievements in International football that has ever been recorded......if not the greatest.

But could we find a case for teams like Ireland and Croatia to win the entire tournament? It has happened before with Greece in 2004 and Denmark actually won Euro 1992 after failing to qualify and only stepping in because Yugoslavia had to withdraw. So anything is possible in a cup competition as this seasons Champions League has proven. It ony takes luck to desert you and no matter how good you are then you will not lift a trophy.
