Di Canio ready to face destiny

8May 2013

England - Premier League

Paolo Di Canio will tell his Sunderland players to prepare for a "Champions League final" against fellow strugglers Southampton on Sunday.

The Wearsiders gave their top-flight survival hopes a shot in the arm with a 1-1 draw against Stoke City on Monday - despite being reduced to 10 men on 34 minutes when Craig Gardner was sent off for a dangerous lunge on Charlie Adam. Sunderland's superior goal difference means victory against Mauricio Pochettino's men would probably be enough to keep them in the Premier League. The Italian said: "With 41 points we should be safe. "This game at home against Southampton will be crucial for our destiny." After the visit to the Stadium of Light of the south-coast club, the Black Cats travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham on 19th May - the final day of the Premier League season. Sunderland are quoted 13/2 by bet365 in the Premier League relegation outright betting, with Wigan priced 11/10 and Norwich available to back at 3/1.
