Darts: Van Gerwen eyes Taylor scalp

27Dec 2012

Rising Dutch star Michael van Gerwen believes that Phil Taylor can be stopped from winning a 16th world title, but only by someone playing beyond their best.

Van Gerwen, who is 10/3 with bet365 to play Taylor in the PDC Darts World Championship final, is looking to win his first world title on New Year's Day and he thinks that Taylor is beatable. He told Sky Sports News: "If he's not at his top level, people can beat him, it's as simple as that. "You always need to prepare yourself well to play Phil Taylor, you need to play at 110 per cent if you want to beat him, otherwise you won't." Having impressed in reaching the last eight, Taylor faces his sternest test yet when he takes on the 2012 runner-up Andy Hamilton in the quarter-finals, with the Power 1/3 to secure a place in the semi-finals.
