Darts: Taylor ready to rule again
Phil Taylor said he was "the proudest man in the world" when celebrating winning a 16th World Darts Championship title at Alexandra Palace on Tuesday.
'The Power' twice fought back from two-leg deficits to prevail 7-4 and deny emerging Dutch star Michael van Gerwen a maiden Sid Waddell Trophy at the famous north London venue. The 52-year-old - the 2/1 favourite with bet365 in the PDC World Darts Championship 2014 outright betting - wrapped up the match 3-1 in the last set, taking out 91 with a double 16. Afterwards, he denied he would retire. Taylor had threatened to walk away from the sport in response to a controversial spat with Raymond van Barneveld in the last four but insisted he would be back to attempt to win a 17th world crown. The Stoke legend said: "I'm probably the proudest man in the world. I've got to give Michael everything, he's phenomenal that kid. Michael is one of the best players I've seen in my career." He added: "I'm absolutely over the moon - it's the biggest night of my life. I really don't know how long I can keep going at this but I'll be back next year to defend the title at 53."
