Cross-Sport Multiple: Stoke too strong for Saints

Andrew Hughes thinks Stoke can add to their impressive home record and help land a Saturday cross-sport multiple in the process.

Bet 1: Back Stoke to beat Southampton at 1.85

Stoke's demolition of Liverpool made the headlines, but it was hardly a surprise. Tony Pulis's team have been improving steadily since they arrived in the Premier League and they are a top half of the table side these days.

Their strength is at the back. Only Manchester City and Everton have lost fewer games this season and, on a run of nine games unbeaten, Stoke's defensive record is one of the best in Europe.

The last time these teams met was in the Championship in 2008, although it is worth noting that none of their last six encounters ended in draws. Southampton have improved since the start of season, but defeat at home to Sunderland was a blow and any hopes they had of pulling away from the relegation zone seem unfounded. The Saints have lost 7 of their 9 away games this season, and will lose again on Saturday.

Bet 2: Back Glasgow to beat Edinburgh at 2.14

Glasgow triumphed 23-14 in last week's all-Scottish Pro-12 game and are a solid bet to win at Murrayfield and pick up the 1872 Cup for the fourth year in a row. On paper, Edinburgh have a powerful pack and a talented back line, but they couldn't break down the miserly Glasgow defence last time and some unforced errors enabled the Warriors to capitalise.

After a bruising encounter last week, both sides will make changes ahead of this game and the return of prop Allan Jacobsen should make the Edinburgh pack even more formidable. But their home record this season is not good. They've lost three of their five Pro12 games at Murrayfield, whilst Glasgow have won three of their five on the road. The Warriors currently lie fourth in the table and have the edge on their rivals who are languishing in ninth. Back Glasgow in the Match Odds market at 2.12.

Bet 3: Back Adrian Lewis to beat Michael van Gerwen at 2.4

This is one of those mouthwatering ties that could turn out to be the match of the tournament. On paper, the Dutchman has the edge. He has beaten Lewis in both their matches this year and he easily disposed of Colin Lloyd in the last round.

Still, although pundits are writing off the defending champion, I think he's worth siding with on Saturday. This tournament brings out the best in him and having been there and done it twice, he won't lack for self-belief. Van Gerwen is a star, but this is his first time in the last eight of the World Championship and he's also carrying an Achilles tendon injury that might hamper him as the match goes on. Lewis never knows when he's beaten and he can battle his way to the last four.
