Cross-Sport Multiple: Back Saints to add to Harry's woes

Andrew Hughes thinks Southampton will beat QPR at St Mary's and help land a Saturday cross-sport multiple in the process...

Betfair now gives you the facility to mix and match your multiples across a huge range of sports and markets with the easy-to-use betslip and so each weekend I've been putting together a cross-sport treble with the aim of showing the way to maximise your profits.

Bet 1: Back Southampton to beat QPR at 1.83

With five points earned from a possible fifteen, Southampton's record under Mauricio Pochettino doesn't sound spectacular. But that run has included a crucial point at relegation rivals Wigan, a decent effort in defeat at Old Trafford and a stunning 3-1 victory over Manchester City.

They're only three points clear of the relegation zone, so there's plenty of work still to do, but they are full of confidence at the moment. The same can't be said for lowly QPR. Harry Redknapp splashed out in January, but although the ship has been steadied, with four draws in six league games, they aren't scoring enough goals and they remain seven points from safety.

I can't see them getting anything at Southampton, who are particularly good at home. Manchester City left St Mary's with nothing and both Arsenal and Everton had to settle for a point on the south coast. Back Saints for the win.

Bet 2: Back Northampton to beat London Irish at 1.2

Saturday's clash at Franklin's Gardens is a contest between two in-form teams. Northampton have won three of their last four and lie in sixth place in the Aviva Premiership. London Irish are two from three, having beaten both Saracens and Wasps at the Madejski Stadium, and are up to tenth in the table.

On the face of it, London Irish have the slightly better form, and will be confident going up against a Northampton team they beat 39-17 earlier this season and 14-13 on the last occasion they visited Franklin's Gardens, in 2011.

But the Exiles have a poor away record this campaign, with just one win on the road all season, and whereas Saints will be boosted by the return of most of their England contingent, the visitors are depleted by injury. Back the home side to prevail.

Bet 3: Back Toubab to win the 2:20 at Doncaster at 2.75

The third race on Doncaster's Saturday card looks like being a straight contest between Paul Nicholls' Toubab and Ed de Giles' six-year-old Prince Of Dreams.

Prince of Dreams certainly has the better recent form. A moderate hurdler, he switched to fences this season and took a while to adapt. But on his third outing, he fell at the last when looking set for victory, then followed that up with a second behind the progressive Arthur's Pass at Leicester, and a six length victory in the Scottish Champion Chase at Musselburgh.

By contrast, Toubab has been beaten over twenty lengths on both his outings this season. But both those races came on heavy and he's at his best on better going. He was a promising novice chaser this time last year and still has yet to show his best. With underfoot conditions likely to suit, he can return to winning ways today.
