Cricket: Root helps England build pressure

14Dec 2012

A cool, calm, collected 73 from debutant Joe Root helped England, who are 5/6 to win the fourth Test with bet365, into a dominant position on the second day of the final Test in Nagpur.

England finished on 330 all out after Root's half century and a swashbuckling 56 from Graeme Swann, before James Anderson weighed in with three wickets to help England reduce India to 87-4 at the close of play. Speaking to Sky Sports after his maiden Test knock, the young Yorkshireman said: "It's not an easy pitch to score on. They set at times defensive fields, so you have to be very patient and be very selective with the areas you're going to score." While England's batsmen battled hard in the sunshine, India's were less effective. Anderson had Virender Sehwag clean bowled in the first over before removing Sachin Tendulkar for the ninth time in Test cricket, a record by any bowler. The Burnley Express also had Gautam Gambhir caught behind as India, who are 4/1 to win the final Test and level the series with bet365, face an uphill struggle to save their blushes.
