Cricket: Knee injury sidelines Pietersen
England will have to try and win the decisive third and final Test against New Zealand without the services of batsman Kevin Pietersen, who has been ruled out with a knee problem.
Pietersen is expected to be out for around two months, with England 4/6 with bet365 to win in Auckland in his absence and take the three-match series against the Black Caps 1-0. A statement from the ECB confirmed: "Recent scans confirm an injury to the right knee with bone bruising and possible cartilage damage to the kneecap. "(Pietersen) will return to the UK for further investigations and specialist review. The injury is likely to require ongoing assessments and a six-eight week period of rest and rehabilitation." Pietersen will miss the Indian Premier League series as a result of his injury setback, but will hope to be ready for a busy summer of cricket in England, which includes two Tests against New Zealand, the ICC Champions Trophy and an Ashes series with Australia.
