Cricket: Anderson looks for batting improvement
James Anderson admits there are no demons in the Dunedin pitch as England attempt to save the first Test against New Zealand.
The tourists have struggled so far, managing to score only 167 after losing the toss and being asked to bat. That total was put into perspective when the Black Caps responded, as they raced to 402-7 by the close of the third day, thanks largely to opener Hamish Rutherford, who made 171 on his debut for New Zealand. New Zealand can be backed at 11/10 with bet365 to win the first Test while the draw is available at 8/11. A rueful Anderson, who eventually dismissed Rutherford as he ended the day with figures of 4-128, said: "I batted on this pitch and thought it was a pretty good deck. For me to get 20, it must be fairly flat. "But we can't dwell too much on our first innings, we've got to think about batting much better in the second innings."
