Can Federer return to past glories?

Time is running out for Roger Federer to add another grand slam tournament to his impressive list and Wimbledon and the US Open could well be his best chances to add one final big tournament win to his belt. Wimbledon starts today and is the third slam event of the year after the Australian Open and French Open. The first two winners have been somewhat predictable in Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

It is difficult these days to see anyone winning a slam other than Djokovic or Nadal. Even the great Roger Federer has had to play second fiddle to these two modern day titans. Age is not on Federer's side though and he will be 31 years of age in August. It is now three years since he lifted this Wimbledon crown and you have to go back to January 2010 and his win at the Australian Open to find his last win in a slam.

The fact is though that Djokovic and Nadal are reaching higher performance levels and unless one of them suffers an early upset before Federer has to meet them or they suffer injuries then it is hard to see the great man defeating either of these two great players. Both Djokovic and Nadal have tasted success at Wimbledon and so both of them have the game for grass.
