Boxing: Canelo promises Mayweather upset
Saul Alvarez has said he will shock the boxing world by beating Floyd Mayweather in a light-middleweight unification world title bout on 14th September.
Unbeaten superstar 'Money' took his record to 44 wins when beating Roberto Guerrero for the WBC welterweight title on 4th May and will put his WBA super light-middleweight title on the line when he meets Mexico's 'Canelo' at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Alvarez, who will put his WBC belt on the line too, is undefeated in 43 contests and has won 30 fights with knockouts. He unified the WBC and WBA light-middleweight titles on 20th April in San Antonio with a unanimous victory over Austin Trout. The 22-year-old Guadalajara-born favourite says he is determined to shatter the myth that Mayweather is untouchable and is confident of a positive outcome when they meet at a catch-weight - or non-standard weight limit - of 152lb. He said: "I'm very excited, this is the fight I have wanted for a while." 'Canelo' added: "It's been talked about for a while and now that it's signed, sealed and delivered, I am very happy. I will be the first to beat Floyd." Mayweather is quoted at 2/5 by bet365 to keep his unbeaten record and Alvarez is available to back at 15/8 for the upset.
