Back goals at Bloomfield Road

9Nov 2012

England - The Championship

Mike Norman previews Saturday's Championship action and fancies plenty of goals to be scored at Bloomfield Road when Blackpool host Bolton.

Blackpool 2.5 v Bolton 3.1; The Draw 3.6

Perhaps we're reaching too far back into the memory bank when we talk about Blackpool being a side that score and concede goals freely, but they are still much more  likely to be involved in an entertaining game than a dull low-scoring one.

In fact the Tangerines haven't been involved in one goalless draw all season and five out of their last 10 league games would have paid out on the Over 3.5 Goals  option.

Ignoring Bolton's midweek 0-0 draw with Leicester then a staggering 11 of the Trotters' previous 12 league games finished with Over 2.5 Goals being landed and both  teams getting on the scoresheet. This augers well for this week's best bet, a back of Over 3.5 Goals at 2.8 in this game.

As well as each side's tendencies to be involved in entertaining, high-scoring games there's also the fact that each club has a new manager at the helm. Dougie  Freedman is unbeaten in his two games as Bolton boss and will be keen to remain that way, whilst Michael Appleton will be desperate to get off to a winning start as  Blackpool boss. Everything is set up for this encounter to have plenty of goals.

Back Over 3.5 Goals @ 2.8 (Best Bet)

Ipswich 2.54 v Burnley 3.1; The Draw 3.5

As far as honeymoon periods go then the likes of Britney Spears and Carmen Electra have nothing on new Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy. The former Sunderland and Wolves  manager grabbed a surprising win at Birmingham last Saturday but came straight back down to earth in midweek when he saw his side thrashed 5-0 at table-topping Crystal  Palace.

The worrying aspect from an Ipswich point of view is the fact that the Tractor Boys have taken just two points at Portman Road all season, losing their last five  consecutive home games. If anyone can rid the fear from playing in front of your home fans then McCarthy can, but I'd rather wait until they start winning before  backing them.

Saturday's opponents Burnley are in decent form, winning four of their last five league games. And of course, they have Europe's top marksman in their ranks. That's  right, the 18 goals Charlie Austin has scored this term is more than any other player in the top European leagues - and that includes Messi and Ronaldo.

I'm not overly confident about predicting the outcome of this game, but it's a tough day of fixtures in the Championship and in-form Burnley look worth chancing  against the bottom club.

Back Burnley to win @ 3.1

Wolves 2.52 v Brighton 3.05; The Draw 3.5

Early Championship pacesetters Brighton have stumbled rather alarmingly of late, going on a run of seven games without a win and taking just four points from a  possible 21. A last gasp midweek win over relegation-threatened Peterborough was much needed, but it hardly signals that the Seagulls are flying again.

Gus Poyet's men have scored just five goals in their last eight games and the worry is that if they don't score on Saturday afternoon then they will be defeated.

That's because Wolves always score at Molineux - or at least they have scored in each of their eight games on home soil this season. True, Stale Solbakken's men have  gone a bit... well stale, themselves in recent weeks but they are hard to beat at home, their only loss being to league leaders Crystal Palace.

Don't expect this game to be an entertaining one as both sides try to find a bit of form, but if there is to be a winner then the hunch is that it will be Woves.

Back Wolves to win @ 2.52
